Nobody has placed a machine in Idaho on the public record, and nobody has placed one in any of the six states around it either. So when a locator calls your Idaho business, it is extending a route rather than servicing one — which affects the terms you can ask for and the service you should pin down.

**At a glance**

| Benchmark share | 40% of net nationally; 50% for pass-through sites |

## Who calls Idaho venues about vending machines?

Two national companies claim the state and neither can show it. PinPoint Vending places specialty equipment — cotton candy, robotic ice cream — and states coverage in every state except Alaska and Hawaii; [Nationwide Vending Locators](https://nationwidevendinglocators.com/) arranges snack, drink and coffee machines from $400 a location, billed after installation. Neither publishes an Idaho placement.

The whole interior west is blank in the same way, which tells you something useful: a caller is not drawing on a nearby route. Ask where the nearest machine they service actually is. If the answer is Washington or Utah, your venue will be at the end of a long line on the day something breaks.

That makes service, not share, the thing to negotiate hardest. The operator who restocks is the party you deal with for sixteen months — start with [how to choose a vending company](https://locationsforvending.com/how-to-choose-vending-company/), then [who calls, and what each kind wants](https://locationsforvending.com/vending-machine-locator-by-state-venues/) for what sits behind the call.

## What share should an Idaho venue expect?

The national distribution, since the state offers nothing of its own, and within it the deciding factor is what kind of building yours is. The 81 placements that state a share divide cleanly: **50% of net** everywhere people pass through, **40%** or occasionally 30% everywhere they stay.

| Your building | What the record shows |
|---|---|
| Shop, forecourt, mall unit, deli | 50% of net |
| Bowling alley, play centre, family entertainment, trampoline park | 40% of net, sometimes 30% |
| Any venue, as a national median | 40% of net |

Being the first recorded placement in a seven-state region is a genuine bargaining position. A locator or operator with nothing to point at in the interior west needs your venue more than you need the machine, and the sensible thing to extract is not an extra five points on the share but a shorter commitment and a written service standard.

Whatever the figure, specialty equipment carries higher percentages than [snack and drink commission](https://locationsforvending.com/vending-machine-commission-business-owners/) rates, and far lower volumes.

## What would 40% of net pay an Idaho venue?

Forty per cent of net on an $8 serving hands an Idaho host **$2.48** in an Idaho host's hands — the agreement subtracts $1.80 a serving before the percentage applies, so the figure is never a straight 40% of the price on the machine.

Idaho adds no state-level deduction to complicate that, which is unusual. [How the share is calculated](https://locationsforvending.com/vending-machine-locator-by-state-venues/) lists the three questions that define "net", and [what to read in a vending service agreement](https://locationsforvending.com/vending-service-agreement-clauses/) the clauses behind them.

## Which Idaho district covers your building?

Idaho has **no state vending licence**, so nothing is filed against your premises at state level. Where a food permit is needed it comes from one of the state's **seven public health districts**, each covering a region and each setting its own fees and process.

That devolution is the Idaho-specific thing to raise. An operator who has worked the Treasure Valley may have no relationship with the Panhandle Health District, and the fee and process differ. Settle in writing which party applies for any permit, holds it and renews it — and if the operator is unsure which district covers you, that is itself informative about how local they are.

A machine holding nothing hot or chilled may fall outside the permit entirely. That is a question for your district rather than for the operator, and worth asking yourself before the machine arrives.

## What does the agreement commit your building to?

Sixteen months at minimum. In a state at the end of a long supply line, **service frequency** is the clause to press hardest: get the restocking interval in writing with a remedy if it lapses, because an empty or broken machine stands on your floor, not the operator's. [When the vending company stops restocking](https://locationsforvending.com/vending-company-not-restocking/) covers the wording.

**Removal** matters for the same reason — a machine that needs collecting from Boise by someone based in Spokane or Salt Lake City is a machine that sits around. Agree who moves it and within how long. The remaining terms are in [what to settle before you sign](https://locationsforvending.com/vending-machine-locator-by-state-venues/).

## What should an Idaho venue ask for?

Four things:

1. **Where the nearest serviced machine is.** It tells you the real response time.
2. **A restocking frequency in writing**, with a remedy.
3. **Which health district** covers your address, and who files there.
4. **A removal clause with a deadline**, given how far an Idaho service route has to travel.

## Frequently asked questions

### Who puts vending machines in Idaho businesses?

Both national locators say they work here and neither has an Idaho venue on the public record — nor one anywhere in the six interior-west states around it. A caller is most likely extending a route rather than servicing an established one.

### What share should an Idaho business get from a vending machine?

No Idaho placement exists on the record, so use the national pattern: 40% of net sales is the median, with pass-through venues such as shops and forecourts paid 50% and destination venues paid 40% or 30%.

### Does an Idaho business need a permit to host a vending machine?

There is no state vending licence. Any food permit comes from one of Idaho's seven public health districts, and because it follows the address it is worth settling in writing which party applies for it and pays.

### Why does the district matter?

Idaho devolves food permitting to seven districts, each setting its own fees and process. A business in Boise and one in Coeur d'Alene are dealing with different offices 400 miles apart, and an operator familiar with one may not know the other.

### How long do vending agreements run?

Sixteen months is the minimum term on every signed placement in the national record. In a state where the operator may be driving a long way to reach you, ask separately about restocking frequency.

## Next step

Ask the caller where their nearest machine actually is before discussing the percentage — in a region where seven states are blank, the honest answer may be several hundred miles away, and that is worth more to you as leverage on service terms than as a reason to decline. Then check which of Idaho's seven health districts covers your address, since the operator may not know.
