New York venues did worse than any other multi-venue state's on this record. Six listings average **38% of net**, two agreed **30%**, and one of those two is the **only indoor playground in the whole dataset** to come in below the median. The New York average is a warning, not a benchmark to accept.

## Who calls New York venues about vending machines?

PinPoint Vending made all six New York placements, and they are an unusually mixed set: cotton candy machines in a Marcellus bowling alley, a Manorville haunted attraction, a Blasdell indoor playground and a Jamaica kids centre; a drink and snack machine in Farmingdale; and flexible equipment in a Jackson Heights retail site. [Nationwide Vending Locators](https://nationwidevendinglocators.com/) covers snack, drink and coffee equipment nationally for a per-location fee charged at installation, and has no New York placement on record.

New York is the only state in the record where all three machine types appear, so a host here should establish which one is being proposed. A specialty unit sells less often at a higher price and pays a better percentage; a drinks bank sells constantly at a low ticket. The restocking and the repairs belong to the operator rather than the locator — [how to choose a vending company](https://locationsforvending.com/how-to-choose-vending-company/) covers them, and [who calls, and what each kind wants](https://locationsforvending.com/vending-machine-locator-by-state-venues/) tells a New York host which kind is on the line.

## Why a New York venue should ignore the New York average

Because two unusually low deals pull it down. Of the 87 placements in the record, 55 agreed 40% of net — and New York contains two of the eleven that agreed 30%.

| New York venue | Type | Share | How it compares nationally |
|---|---|---:|---|
| Jackson Heights | Retail | 50% | With eleven other pass-through venues |
| Manorville | Haunted attraction | 40% | At the median |
| Jamaica | Kids centre | 40% | At the median |
| Marcellus | Bowling alley | 30% | With six other bowling alleys |
| Blasdell | Indoor playground | 30% | **Alone** — the only one of fifteen below 40% |
| Farmingdale | Indoor playground | Not stated | One of six listings stating none |

Marcellus is explicable: bowling alleys come out lowest everywhere in this dataset, with seven of eighteen below 40%. Blasdell is not. Twelve of the thirteen indoor playgrounds that state a figure took 40%, and nothing in the Blasdell listing — which reports no visitor count — explains why it did not.

So if you run an indoor playground in New York and are offered 30% on the grounds that it is what New York pays, the answer is that one New York venue took it and twelve comparable venues elsewhere did not.

## What each New York share pays a venue

A New York host takes **$1.86** of an $8 serving at 30%, **$2.48** at 40% and **$3.10** at 50%. Each figure follows a $1.80-a-serving deduction, so none is a flat share of what a New York machine charges.

| Share | Per $8 serving | What it costs you against the median |
|---|---|---|
| 30% of net | $1.86 | 62 cents a serving less |
| 40% of net | $2.48 | The national median |
| 50% of net | $3.10 | 62 cents a serving more |

[How the share is calculated](https://locationsforvending.com/vending-machine-locator-by-state-venues/) works a New York example through, and the clauses that fix what counts as "net" in a New York agreement are listed in [what to read in a vending service agreement](https://locationsforvending.com/vending-service-agreement-clauses/). Across New York and the record, a specialty machine in a New York building earns a better rate than [ordinary snack and drink commission](https://locationsforvending.com/vending-machine-commission-business-owners/) percentages reach in New York, on a fraction of the sales — which is why the machine type has to be settled before the percentage means anything.

## The Jackson Heights listing is the one to study

Fifty per cent of net, in a retail site, with flexible equipment. That combination is not a coincidence: **all six flexible placements in this record are pass-through venues and every one agreed 50%**, and eleven of the twelve placements at 50% overall are pass-through sites.

| Venue kind | What the record shows |
|---|---|
| Pass-through — shops, forecourts, malls, concourses | 50% is reachable, and usual at that level |
| Destination — recreation, play centres, bowling | 40% is the practical ceiling, with one exception |

If your New York building is a shop, a bodega, a concourse or anything people move through, Jackson Heights is the comparison to open with, and 50% is a defensible ask. If it is a destination venue, 40% is the target and 30% is below what twelve comparable venues agreed.

## What New York asks of the machine

A **local health permit for every food or drink machine**, obtained by the operator. New York's requirement is municipal rather than statewide, so the issuing authority is your city or county — and the six New York listings sit in six different permitting environments, from New York City to Erie County.

Two questions settle it: which authority issues the permit for your address, and whether the operator already holds it. Then put local compliance in the agreement as the operator's obligation with an indemnity, because the machine will be standing in your building when an inspector arrives.

## What should a New York venue settle before signing?

Four things:

1. **The share, against the right comparison.** Forty per cent for a destination venue, 50% for a pass-through one, and not 30% because two New York venues took it.
2. **The machine type**, since the record shows cotton candy, drink and snack, and flexible equipment all landing on different terms.
3. **A named restocking interval and a remedy**, covered for New York in [when the vending company stops restocking](https://locationsforvending.com/vending-company-not-restocking/). The remaining New York clauses are covered in [what to settle before you sign](https://locationsforvending.com/vending-machine-locator-by-state-venues/).
4. **A removal date in the agreement**, naming who clears the machine from a New York floor and at whose cost.

## Frequently asked questions

### What percentage do New York businesses get from vending machines?

The six New York listings average 38% of net — the lowest of any state with four or more stated shares. Two agreed 30%, two agreed 40%, one agreed 50% and one states no figure.

### Should a New York venue accept 30%?

Not on the strength of the local record. Of the fifteen indoor playgrounds in this dataset, the Blasdell listing is the only one below 40%, and the other twelve stating a figure all took 40%.

### Which New York venue got the most?

Jackson Heights, a retail site, at 50% of net with flexible equipment. All six flexible placements in the record are pass-through venues and every one agreed 50%.

### Does a New York business need a permit to host a vending machine?

The machine does, and it is the operator's: a local health permit is required for every food or drink machine. The issuing authority is your city or county rather than the state.

### How long do vending agreements run in New York?

Sixteen months is the minimum term on all six New York listings and on every signed placement nationally. Ask separately what notice ends it and who removes the machine.

## Next step

Refuse the New York average as a benchmark and name the right national comparison instead — twelve of the thirteen indoor playgrounds in this record that state a share took 40%, and the one exception is in New York. Then ask which city or county issues the health permit for your address, because New York licenses each machine locally rather than statewide.
