Quick answer
Wisconsin venues negotiate with better information than almost anywhere. Seven signed venues across six categories sit on the open record, six of them at 40% of net and none at 50% — so a Wisconsin host can usually find its own kind of building and see what that room actually agreed.

| The question | Wisconsin’s answer |
|---|---|
| Signed venues on the record | 7 — joint most of any state |
| Categories represented | 6 |
| Shares agreed | 40% at six, 30% at one |
| Any venue at 50%? | None in Wisconsin |
| What your building must license | Nothing |
| The operator’s state licence | $125 a year plus $9 a machine |
Who calls Wisconsin venues about vending machines?
Two kinds of company, and in Wisconsin the difference also changes what gets licensed.
PinPoint Vending places specialty equipment — cotton candy, ice cream, coffee — and signed all seven Wisconsin venues on the record between June 29 and August 7, 2026. Nationwide Vending Locators handles Wisconsin snack and drink banks at a per-location fee payable on installation.
Whoever restocks a Wisconsin machine is its operator rather than the locator who signed the venue up, and the two are often separate companies. How to choose a vending company covers the operator; who calls, and what each kind wants sorts Wisconsin callers into the two kinds.
Find your own category in the Wisconsin record
Most states in this series give a host one or two local comparisons at best. Wisconsin gives six categories, which means the relevant question stops being “what is the national average” and becomes “what did a room like mine agree”.
| Wisconsin venue | Category | Reported visitors | Share |
|---|---|---|---|
| Wisconsin Dells | Water park (premium) | 480 a day | 40% of net |
| New Berlin | Family entertainment centre | 210 a day | 40% |
| Platteville | Bowling alley | 140 a day | 40% |
| Green Bay | Bowling alley | 110 a day | 30% |
| Rice Lake | Escape room | 68 a day | 40% |
| Appleton | Trampoline park | 55 a day | 40% |
| Marion | Campground | Not reported | 40% |
Read the two bowling alleys together, because they are the one in-state pair: Platteville at 140 visitors a day got 40% and Green Bay at 110 got 30%. That ten-point gap on a 30-visitor difference is the clearest evidence in the Wisconsin file that the percentage is negotiated rather than calculated.
And note the ceiling. Nothing in Wisconsin reached 50%, which tells a host both that 40% is achievable almost everywhere here and that half is not an established Wisconsin number.
The licence is the operator’s, and the product decides it
Nothing attaches to a Wisconsin host’s premises. The state food machine licence belongs to whoever operates the machine, costing $125 a year plus $9 per machine through the Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection, and machines holding only exempt snacks and canned drinks fall outside it.
| What the machine holds | State licence |
|---|---|
| Spun sugar, soft serve, fresh coffee | Required |
| Exempt snacks and canned drinks only | Not required |
Two asks follow for a Wisconsin venue. Confirm the licence is in the operator’s name and in force for the category of machine proposed, and put compliance in the agreement as the operator’s written obligation with an indemnity — the machine is in your building when anyone inspects it.
A cheaper machine type is not automatically the better one for a host, though. A drinks bank skips the licence and pays a lower percentage; a specialty machine carries the licence and pays more per sale.
Wisconsin’s renewal statute is the clause to use
Wisconsin has no verified business opportunity statute, but it does regulate how contracts roll over. Wisconsin Statutes section 134.49 requires written notice 15 to 60 days before a renewal deadline in some business contracts.
Whether a vending placement falls inside it is a question for a lawyer, which is exactly why it belongs in the negotiation rather than in the background:
- Write the notice period in. Thirty to sixty days before the renewal date, in writing, to a named address.
- Make silence end the term, not extend it. Automatic renewal on silence is the default in a lot of placement paperwork.
- Tie removal to the end date. A term that lapses without a removal obligation leaves the machine where it is.
All seven Wisconsin placements run a sixteen-month minimum term, so the renewal date is the point at which a host either keeps a working arrangement or inherits another sixteen months of a poor one. What to read in a vending service agreement covers the rest of the clauses.
What would 40% of net pay a Wisconsin venue?
Six of the seven Wisconsin venues agreed 40% of net, and that pays a host $2.48 on an $8 serving.
| Share | A Wisconsin host takes per $8 serving |
|---|---|
| 30% — Green Bay | $1.86 |
| 40% — the other six | $2.48 |
| 50% — no Wisconsin venue | $3.10 |
The agreements deduct $1.80 a serving before applying the percentage, so a Wisconsin host’s cut is of net rather than of the price on the machine. A Wisconsin example is worked through in how the share is calculated, and against ordinary snack and drink commission a specialty machine pays more per sale on fewer sales.
What should a Wisconsin venue settle before signing?
Five things:
- Which Wisconsin venue is your comparison, by category rather than by state average.
- Forty per cent as the floor, since six of seven agreed it and the only exception took less.
- The operator’s licence, in its name, for the machine category proposed.
- A written renewal notice period, not an assumption about section 134.49.
- A dated removal obligation, with the cost of clearing the floor stated.
Frequently asked questions
What percentage do Wisconsin businesses get from vending machines?
Six of the seven signed Wisconsin venues agreed 40% of net and one agreed 30%. No Wisconsin venue reached 50%, so 40% is the working benchmark here.
Can a Wisconsin venue compare itself with a local one?
Usually yes. Seven venues across six categories are on the record — a campground, a trampoline park, a family entertainment centre, a water park, two bowling alleys and an escape room.
Does a Wisconsin business need a licence to host a machine?
Nothing attaches to your premises. The state food machine licence is the operator’s, at $125 a year plus $9 per machine, and snack and canned-drink machines are exempt from it.
What is the Wisconsin renewal statute?
Section 134.49 requires written notice 15 to 60 days before a renewal deadline in some business contracts. Whether it reaches a vending placement is a question for a lawyer, so fix renewal in the agreement.
How long do vending agreements run in Wisconsin?
All seven Wisconsin placements carry a sixteen-month minimum term, which is the minimum across this whole record. The renewal and notice terms are separate and negotiable.
